A humble home is now the sparkling star on the block.
Everett, Washington, a thriving city just north of Seattle, is the home of our 2022 Brand Ambassador, Kara Williams, her husband Tanner and their two great Danes, Zeus and Miles.
The couple knew they had their work cut out for them when they purchased this 1901 fixer-upper on a corner double lot. However, as a designer, Kara envisioned all it could become, and their purchase was completed in 2017.
In the years since, Kara and Tanner have painted and added black shutters, a white picket fence, window boxes, new lighting and completely fresh landscaping.
“I love styling our covered porch for every season! I have such fun with it, and I hope our home brings a smile to others as they pass by,” Kara says.

Did you Know?
- Gambrel roof: The origin of the gambrel roof in North America is not fully known. However, the oldest building with a gambrel roof was built in 1677 for the second Harvard Hall at Harvard University. Also known as a “Dutch” or “barn” roof, a gambrel roof allows for extra attic space and adds a unique and nostalgic look.
- White picket fence: The word, “picket,” is from the French word, piquet, for “a pointed stick or board.” These were used by the military in old Europe as weapons of defense. Later, New World colonists installed pickets to demarcate land and surround their homes for protection. Fences were painted using a mixture of lime and water to protect the wood, giving them their white color. Ultimately, these simple and charming borders became symbolic of ideal American living from coast to coast.
