ABOVE, LEFT • Natural beauty. Melissa says one of the keys to creating a beautiful tablescape is to incorporate natural elements.“Adding greenery and bits of nature can give that ‘completion’ factor to just about any tablescape. Mixing a variety of colors and textures in your owers and greenery adds depth of interest and will make your arrangement feel more ‘upscale,’” she notes. ABOVE, RIGHT • Adorable florals. “For my main centerpiece, I like to arrange the owers themselves rst in the container, focusing on shaping the arrangement, then sticking in greenery where I feel it ts and complements the owers,” Melissa says.“You can then carry that greenery down onto your table in a freeform fashion. Here, I used seeded eucalyptus and scattered fresh pumpkins on top.” RIGHT • Stylish & safe. Melissa encourages everyone to give their tablescapes a pop of color, but she cautions against using certain types of greenery.“While it’s okay to use fresh eucalyptus in a centerpiece, such as I did in my vintage crock, it’s important not to place it where it will come into contact with food, napkins and plates. The oil from eucalyptus can cause seizures,” she reveals. Here, Melissa used fresh sage from her garden. She considers this to be a “food-safe leaf.” HOLIDAYdécor | 2022 99
