From the Ground Up. The home itself is a work of love. Heidi and her husband, Brett, first lived in Utah during their newlywed and college years. Cache Valley has a smalltown feel and is a city nestled in the foothills of the picturesque Wasatch Mountains. It was an easy place to fall in love with, and it collectively captured their hearts. “We loved it so much we decided to move back to raise our family during the summer of 2019,” Heidi says. It was a long-time longing of hers to design her home and see it built from the ground up, so commissioning a new build was a dream come true. They purchased land, and in twoand-a-half years, their home was constructed. Just as Heidi now lovingly designs the interiors of each room, Brett also had a hand in the home. “Brett is an entrepreneur, and his hobby is woodworking,” Heidi says. “He added beautiful trim and finish work throughout our home. I especially adore the trim work in my entryway and dining room, as I know it was a gift of challenging work and talent that he created for our family.” Southern Meets Scottish. Over the years, Heidi has worked as an interior designer for a variety of homes. Her career gained momentum after establishing her blog, Home by Heidi in 2010, and her Instagram the following year. “Sharing content of our home on social media and collaborating with clients has given me a canvas to further express my passion for design.” Once the first week of November hits, she gets to work festooning her home for the holidays. “It takes time and work, and I like to enjoy the season for as long as I can,” she says. “For me, the Christmas season lasts from November 1st until January 1st.” She finds inspiration with an appreciation of stripes and plaids, a nod to her rich Scottish heritage. “In my decorating, you will find a mix of traditional Christmas plaids as well as timeless Southern charm,” she says. “Classic pops of red and green with berries and evergreens dripping at every turn embodies my aesthetic.” 70 HOLIDAYdécor | 2022
