She begins with greenery first. The tree is particularly important because it sets the tone for how the rest of the house will look. “Everything is based around the way I decorate the tree,” she says. “In years past, I’ve gotten a minimal tree and followed that through with minimal decorations around the house, but this time I added a deep mustard for a fun pop of color.” She allows herself to go with the flow, particularly in the beginning. “It’s more of just a color combination and then I just do whatever feels good,” she says. The results are modern traditional holiday décor that embraces the icons of the season—a classical tree and garland—but with a lively, eye-catching twist, as seen in the mustard color this year. “I use it on ribbons, and incorporate it into my garland and Christmas tree,” she says. Elements like clay pots and brass candlesticks add a vintage ambiance and creative spirit.
