Modern transitional living gets a holiday spin at Caroline Bivens’s home. The content creator lives in Auburn, Kansas, and has a full house consisting of her husband, four children, a dog, a cat and a full heart, as seen in the skillful and joyful expression of her design throughout their home. Originally, her style was 100% modern farmhouse, but just as her house has evolved over the years, so has she. “Currently, I’ve gone with more of a simplistic look and keep my focus on pieces that really inspire me,” she says. “One thing that connects all my aesthetics is that I always have vintage finds mixed into my décor right alongside new items.” She has no formal training and is driven by an innate love to create beautiful spaces that not only make you feel good but make you feel completely at home. By Design. Though she may not have a degree from a fancy design school, she has two vital attributes for any interior artist: moxie and vision. For example, one of the biggest DIYs that she singlehandedly tackled was a stair banister project. “It was such an accomplishment, and I did it all by myself,” she says. “I won’t say I wasn’t completely terrified when I removed the old railing…I was so afraid I was going to fall, so I basically just crawled the whole way across as I worked.” Just as she does for her home year around, Caroline, who is daring in her designs and their execution, creates holiday interiors that work beautifully with her neutral home. TOP RIGHT • Rock On. Modern rocking chairs were chosen for their simple and clean lines, and they are contrasted by the organic shape of a stag head from Arhaus.“This guy is so unique and would look great anywhere, but I love the look of him on the porch,” Caroline says. RIGHT • Gorgeous Garland. Greenery frames the doors and is attached with Velcro command hooks, which are easy to move without messing up the paint. Junie, the dog, oversees all decorating. 46 HOLIDAYdécor | 2022
