The ancient fishing village of Clovelly is a coastal delight.
With its cobblestone streets, a splendid view of Bideford Bay, and donkeys and sleds as standard modes of transportation, Clovelly, on the north Devon coast of England, is a dream come true for those who love the history and charm of white-washed fishing villages.
Perched on a 400-foot cliff, this ancient village with just 83 structures dates back 800 years and has been beautifully preserved by its 300 residents. Visitors can wander through the Court Gardens, charter a boat for fishing excursions, walk along the man-made stone quay, enjoy live music, stroll through the museum or take part in many arts and crafts classes. There’s even a Red Lion Inn at the harbor for those who’d like an extended stay.
