Styling tips for a merry little kitchen.
Happy Holidays, Friends!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year; and, as we start to decorate our trees and hang our stockings, let’s not forget to spread Christmas cheer to the heart of the home—the kitchen!
I often get asked how to decorate kitchens for Christmas while still keeping the space functional for cooking. It’s easy really:Just keep it simple!
Tips for Creating a Cozy Christmas Kitchen
Start with a “fa-la-la” focal point: For my own kitchen, the focal point is the cedar garland that I drape over the window. For other kitchens, it could be a Christmas tree on an island or a wreath hung over a range hood. Scope out your space and find your kitchen’s best features. Then, highlight them with Christmas décor.
Allow yourself to get creative and think outside of the box. Perhaps also change it up from what you have done in previous years.
Add in the merry details: Vintage items give a space so much character. On my open shelves, you’ll find a variety of found objects, such as a red vintage camp lantern, collected rolling pins with painted red handles, vintage nutmeg spice jars and my precious, old Santa mugs. I also mix in plenty of greenery (mini wreaths, sprigs of cedar, garlands, etc.).
You can keep it neutral if you’d like, but I always love a pop of red in my kitchen at Christmas. Don’t have open shelves in your kitchen? No problem; you can always add details by displaying pieces on trays on your countertops.
This year, thanks to Decorative Ceiling Tiles, we added faux wood beams to the ceiling. I love the added detail it brings! It draws your eye up immediately and makes the space much more interesting.
Edit and add the finishing touches: Now, it’s time to balance things out. Stand back, see what needs adjusting, and take pieces away (if needed). I typically overdo it with the greenery at first and end up having to take some away.
And, last but not least, I always love to finish my Christmas kitchen decorating by baking something sweet. Nothing says “the holidays” like a plate full of cookies on display, right?
Signing Off
Well, that’s a wrap, my friends! It’s been an amazing year, and I’ve loved every second of being the Cottages & Bungalows Brand Ambassador. As I sign off to spend quality time with family for the holidays, I just want to say, “Thank you!” for all the support and love this past year.
I hope you’ve found inspiration in my column, and I am so excited to watch the journey of the next ambassador this coming year!
Have a blessed holiday season—and Happy New Year, friends!
Cheers,
