What can you tell us about the Georgetown bungalow’s specs?
Shelby Van Daley: The home was built in 1945… a bungalow style with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. It also has a detached garage, 8-foot ceiling. The primary bedroom and bathroom were a recent addition.
Original square footage was 2,015, and they added 735 square feet with the addition. The home is less than a mile from the Georgetown square, dubbed “The Most Beautiful Square in Texas.”
What was the home like before?
Shelby: Very cute and charming with a lot of potential. It had white walls and a lot of cute details like the interior window and a cute back porch. The kitchen had been updated and had great brick floors and it was a blank slate to add the finishing touches to.
What was the reason/inspiration for the new design? What are a few ways you achieved your vision?
Shelby: Our client downsized from a family home on acreage. Finding herself an empty nester, she wanted to be closer to friends and social activities. With the downsize came the need for all new furniture to meet the scale of the new home. Our client loves a neutral pallet and so do we! We achieved our vision by using textured fabrics and warm wood tones to complement the original hard wood floors. We made sure that scale was appropriate for each piece and each room. To add a little bit of complexity to the scale our client is tall and her daughter (former D1 college volleyball player) and son-in-law (current NFL offensive lineman) are also quite tall! So we had to make sure the pieces would be comfortable for their family while fitting with the room and design.

What ways did you save on the project?
Shelby: We’re not DIY’ers… but we did get a custom island with alder turned legs and a butcher block top, made for the kitchen and it was only $1,800!
Shelby: The kitchen space is not large, and the seller had put a small metal moveable island in the home. We knew we could do better, so we dreamed this up! We love the way it turned out. It’s great space for servings and even allows for a couple of counter stools.
