Paint
Paint is almost magical in its power to transform. Consider what paint can do before replacing cabinets, furniture and even floors and fixtures. And while you’re at it, grab the painter’s tape. It’s not just a must-have for doors and edges, use it to create bold patterns like stripes, checks and plaids.
Tension Rods
Inexpensive and easy to install, tension rods can turn almost any opening into something attractive. Use rods to hold spools of ribbon within a bookcase, to hang a valance beneath a sink, to soften a doorway and much more.
Twine
This rough-textured string is a must-have. Hang an indoor clothesline to display anything from recipe cards to mittens. Add rustic charm to a room by tying twine around displays of books or grain sacks, or use twine to tie back curtains or hang a wreath.
Hooks, Pegs & Knobs
Almost any small space can become useful with the addition of hooks or a row of pegs. Suddenly, blank areas become indispensable places to put collections on display or create a pretty vignette. Knobs are more than just an instant way to change to the look of any piece of furniture, highlight eye-catching knobs all their own as wall hooks, or use them as you would fashion picture rails and hang framed art from them.
